Award-winning country house: The Times and the Sunday Times have declared “The Bull Inn” in Totnes, England, the Eco-Hotel of the Year 2020. The operators themselves describe their small, fine dining establishment with its eight guest rooms as “A BLODDY GOOD ORGANIC INN.” Driven by the goal of keeping their own ecological footprint as small as possible, the business processes only organic food and also relies on sustainability, natural products and exuberant charm in the interior. It is only logical that the bathrooms contain Starlet baths and Supra shower trays made of the natural materials glass and steel.

Amidst royal porcelain: The Langham Nymphenburg Residence in Munich combines the service and amenities of a luxury hotel with the comfort of a private home. Not only the view of Nymphenburg Palace creates a stately flair. Every bedroom in the house has also been exclusively designed - there is the "Ladies’ Room", the "Gentlemen’s Room", the "Blue Room" and a children’s room which is completely dedicated to the world of the circus. In addition, the famous Porzellan Manufaktur Nymphenburg, which is right next door, has left its mark on the interior of the guest house: Nymphenburg porcelain is not only found in the crockery cupboard but also as a decorative element in every bathroom. - Together with the Starlet Flair Oval bath, it is a surprising moment of inspiration.

Full bath by the bed: Like all hotels designed by interior designer Jean-Philippe Nuel, the hotel "Le Cinq Codet" in Paris, which opened in 2014, is characterised by the interplay of classic elegance and contemporary design. The five-star hotel is located in a former Telecom France building from the 1930s, which has been extensively renovated for its new function. The characteristic horizontal formats of the windows and the semi-circular front of the building have been retained. Instead, Nuel transfers the swing of the façade to the interior of the guest rooms with rounded design elements and fixtures. Openness and soft shapes also determine the concept here: Nuel has placed a free-standing, conically shaped bath in the middle of the room. In the colour combination of black and white, the Starlet Oval Silhouette confidently invites you to a successful moment of relaxation. View of Paris included.

Where design lives: The stilwerk Hotel Heimhude is the first hotel project of the stilwerk design platform. The idea: to transfer the design standards of the selected brands from the stilwerk cosmos into real living situations and make them tangible. This means that an overnight stay can be used to test living and shopping at the same time, because the design furnishings can also be purchased by guests for their own homes. The art nouveau villa, which is over 150 years old and located in the centre of Hamburg, combines time-honoured charm with an exciting interior, which relies on natural materials and handmade manufacturing quality. Part of the distinctive interior design are also Ultra shower trays, specially selected for the 24 bathrooms of the boutique hotel: 24 times minimalism in an exclusive matt colour.

Where time-out begins: Surrounded by the tranquility of the forest and with an expansive view of Lake Bostal in the Sankt Wendeler Land, the Seezeitlodge, a hotel and spa, is located in the middle of the Saar-Hunsrück Nature Park. The architecture blends respectfully into the landscape to give the place its special character. And also in the interior, the reflection on peace and nature creates the atmosphere needed for relaxation. The design is both nonchalant and chic. Cosy, but not ordinary. Real materials such as wood and glass create a warm atmosphere. The designer's choice of baths fits in well with this: in the Fire Suite, the Starlet Oval ensures self-confident design in the bathroom, while in the Traumblick Suite the free-standing Starlet Oval Silhouette bath makes a statement for more serenity.

Interior designer Jean-Philippe Nuel wanted to create discreet luxury in the redesign of this former hospital on the banks of the Rhône. The magnificent neoclassical facade dates back to the 18th century, and for a long time the building was considered the most beautiful hospice in France. The work took six years, and was the largest private renovation of a listed building in France. Now the hotel offers 144 rooms and suites for the highest standards, a successful example of the combination of modern design and historic grandeur. Nuel opted for the Starlet Oval Silhouette baths for the interiors.

A hotel made entirely of wood – that was what the client wanted for the Tirol Lodge hotel project. And rather than a boxy hotel block, the result is an entire chalet village with 171 rooms in Ellmau, Austria. A special retreat amidst the mountain landscape of the Wilder Kaiser with direct access to the ski slopes, year-round heated outdoor pool and a sauna overlooking the Alpine panorama. However, the material was something of a challenge for the architect Bruno Moser: wood is constantly moving. This aspect can become something of a problem, especially in the bathrooms. Silicone joints could tear or leak, and moisture could damage the wood. The architectural office therefore opted for the floor-level shower areas Floor Side in combination with the Upstand. What makes this solution so safe? The frame made of glazed titanium steel extends the edge of the shower surfaces to under the wall cladding, and eliminates the need for silicone. The result: the wood remains effectively protected from moisture. Simply a really smart solution!

Keep it smart and keep it simple: when the hotelier couple Ulli and Christian Mittermeier converted a former entrepreneur's villa from the Gründerzeit in Rothenburg into a hotel, they wanted to combine the quality of a high-end design hotel with the freedom and informality of a private apartment. While the colour concept of the exterior of the house is characterised by black, transparency and openness dominate inside. The leading idea of the design: consciously omit details, and then make sure everything else is of the very highest quality. "We asked ourselves what the first thing is that a hotel guests looks at, and quickly realised it was the bathroom," explains Christian Mittermeier. The bathroom signals the standard of the hotel to the guest, and is often a source of inspiration. Therefore the hoteliers opted for generous, floor-level showers with plenty of space. The matt black of the FLOOR shower area is a perfect match both structurally and in colour for the black of the bathroom tiles, and merges seamlessly with the tile structure.

One of the rooms has also been furnished with an exclusive LUX line Lux Shape bath. With the skeleton construction of the free-standing Lux Shape, a successful concept has transferred from architecture to the interior design of the bathroom. Stable steel forms the load-bearing, open frame into which the bath made of glazed titanium steel is hung for a brilliant presentation of the softly flowing inner body and the flat edge of the bath. The centrally positioned bath is the star of the room, and gives the room its own brilliance.

The hotel as a machine for wild longings: the K7 in Bad Nauheim is a very special place. It is the first boutique hotel in the Hessian spa town, and yet continues a glamorous tradition. Because the legendary, exclusive Hotel Europäischer Hof opened in the same location in 1855. The operators of the K7 have made it their mission to preserve the historic building structure and still realise creative and modern ideas in new version of the establishment. The result? Imaginative! The K7 takes its guests on a journey into five individually designed themes world: the names of the rooms are La Fleur, Urban, Marmor, Artroom and Kamin.

The respective bathrooms set a counterpoint to the colourfulness, as they have deliberately been pared down to black-and-white. The shower area has been furnished with matt coloured shower trays combined with the Upstand. Thanks to this intelligent solution made of glazed titanium steel, there is no requirement for the maintenance-intensive silicone joints. The masonry is reliably protected against moisture. At the K7, the rooms inspire dreams. And it’s wonderful if the best quality is a part of it.

Pure form: the Fonteney in Hamburg is a successful experiment in modern organic design. The curved building consists of three circles that merge together to form two courtyards in the middle. The facade is characterised by convex and concave shapes. Throughout the hotel, no two walls are parallel to each other. Inside, the three connected circles form a 27-metre-high glass atrium that serves as a lobby. Floor-to-ceiling window provide light-flooded rooms and suites and spectacular views of the Alster. The 5-star hotel also attached great importance to exclusivity and hand-picked design for the interior. Which is why the architectural offices of Aukett + Hesse chose two Bette enamelled titanium steel baths for the natural stone bathrooms – the Starlet Flair Oval fitted bath and the free-standing Starlet Oval Silhouette.

The Starlet Flair Oval was installed under the natural stone so as not to interrupt the consistent use of this material in the bathrooms. The bath and washstand area, floor and walls are made entirely of stone. Every single natural stone slab was individually planned and cut to size. The interior designers opted for the free-standing Starlet Oval Silhouette for many of the rooms and all 17 suites. "Starlet exudes the design safety of a classic, but in the process it also retreats pleasantly in favour of the architecture," explains interior designer Christian Meinert. The bath has a timelessly elegant appeal that is the result of its harmonious design. The generous shape is perfect for bathing à deux.

John Crowe Ransom’s Quarrel with Himself The Hudson Review Spring 2016 (Volume LXIX, No. 1) Robert Archambeau — "Almost thirty years ago, Ransom’s biographer Thomas Daniel Young spoke of the urgent need for a variorum edition of Ransom’s poetry, and only now, with the appearance of Ben Mazer’s Collected Poems of John Crowe Ransom, do we have one. It is a shame that it took so very long for someone to answer Young’s call, but it is a boon to all who care for
Ransom’s work that Mazer was the one to do so: his scrupulously
edited book includes all of Ransom’s textual variants in detailed
end notes."
