Once a Council House this 1940s South Dublin home, situated in the coastal village of Monkstown, Dún Laoghaire–Rathdown county, Ireland. An inspired remodel for a family inclined to living up to the structure’s storied past — rebel songs rumoured to have been played into the wee hours there in the 1970s by Luke Kelly of The Dubliners, one time owner Andrew Massey said to have been attacked by a circus lion that accidentally let loose by its trainer in 1951 — the extension into a garden of almost thirty palm varietals centered around an aquarium for an enormous snapping turtle known as Mr Swampy, a thirteen year old at project completion. Marc and Suzie Flood began the process of remodeling after they were married in 2014, an initial set of plans was submitted in 2016 just after their son Conor Maverick was born, but had to be scrapped due to objections by the building council over a sewerage pipe running under the property, but TAKA redesigned, keeping the essential vision intact. Suzie, an avid cook after her father a chef, worked closely with Cian Deegan of TAKA to realize her well conceived kitchen; and she and Marc each took responsibility for a bathroom, Suzie’s finished fifties style for her beloved nanny, and featuring a little LABETTE bath. She documents the project on her blog THE HOUSE BEYOND THE PALMS.

19th-Century Provençal-style Côte d'Azur Villa, Cannes

A three-story seaside villa on the Côte d'Azur Villa in Cannes conceived anew with respect for its Provençal spirit and authenticity of the 19th century abode, a vacation home to a European family for more than 25 years before it was entrusted to Elliott Barnes the celebrated American designer — an American in Paris since 1987 when he was called in to collaborate with Andrée Putman, completing his architectural degree only two years prior, staying on sixteen years in her studio and staying in France to establish his own firm. Ivory clad LUX OVAL COUTURE an apt selection, as a free-standing focal point of relaxed elegance in the subdued sand shades of the interior and as situated near the sea on the French Riviera.

Itakerhof, Upper Bavaria, Germany

Architect: Wimmer Architekten GbR

Living space: 220 m²

Opening: December 2018

Tension between tradition and modernity: A Bavarian farm always includes a barn. This outbuilding is usually used to store agricultural equipment, as a fodder silo or storage room. At the Itakerhof, not far from Lake Simssee in Upper Bavaria, the barn stood empty and unused for more than three decades after the farm was abandoned. Rainwater increasingly damaged the 19th-century building fabric of field stones, wooden beams and bricks. In converting the historic building into a modern residential house, the architects were concerned to treat the old building with respect and to carefully complement it with contemporary design. The result? Interesting contrasts of raw brickwork, simple concrete elements and modern luxury. In the bathroom, the Lux Oval provides a generous feeling of space. Its shape is naturally flowing and at the same time clear and concise. The overall impression: moving elegance.

Favourite rooms: interior designer Wiebke Rütters made her dream of her own home come true, with the emphasis on sustainability, flexibility and functionality. What does it look like? Spacious areas and airy interiors dictate the character of the rooms. Selected materials and design elements give the whole sensuality and warmth. For Wiebke Rütters and her family, the bathroom is one of the loveliest rooms in the house. Particular attention was paid to the choice of high-quality, durable products. The Lux Shape washstand integrates perfectly in the restrained design, and is at the same time the highlight in the bathroom.

Living in a monument: the windmill at Ottmarsbocholt was still used for grinding corn until the 1970s. Today, the listed building is home to Jeannette and Alfred Bradford. A place with its own special charm: the 200 square metres extend over four floors, and the walls are round — with no corners or edges at all. A plain table, leather sofa and metal shelves now stand under the wooden ceiling with solid beams where horse-drawn carriages used to be loaded with sacks of flour. Purism in the bathroom is provided by the washbasin and bath from our design line Art. A statement to timeless functionalism.

Open for views: the "Haus am See" is in Langenargen on the waterfront of Lake Constance. It is a show home of the Baufritz company, the specialist in ecological building. Thanks to the almost entirely glazed south side, the building opens up with a large terrace with views of the lake, which creates a unique connection to nature. An intelligent ventilation system automatically supplies fresh air when required. Natural, pollutant-tested materials were chosen throughout the house: rustic oak floorboards with oiled surfaces, polished Jura marble slabs, kitchen surfaces in oak and limestone. The bedroom leads past a room divider of natural tree trunks into the wellness area with a free-standing bath and washbasin of enamelled titanium steel from the Art line. Just outside the window: the lake and the Appenzell mountains - pure relaxation.

Nestled between majestic peaks: the Perathoner architectural firm has designed a striking contemporary house at an altitude of 1,563 metres in Selva di Val Gardena in the Italian Dolomites. The aim of the project was to integrate the building in the surrounding area in the best possible way. To the south, the house opens up with fully glazed fronts; the boundaries between inside and outside disappear. The three separate residential units offer an impressive view of the Sella massif. The modern architectural language with its clean lines runs through the entire building without sacrificing materials such as stone and wood from the traditional Alpine architectural style. Enamelled titanium steel fixtures complement this concept with style.

Sustainability looks this exquisite today: Germany’s first ecologically efficient house is located in Poing in Upper Bavaria. Baufritz, the specialist for ecological prefabricated houses, combines tradition with modern technology and fresh ideas in Alpenchic, its show home. It includes the use of natural products made of wood, steel and glass, has its own recycling cellar and a self-sustaining energy concept with fuel cell technology, photovoltaics and a wind turbine in the garden. All this combines to make the building largely self-sufficient. Charming eye-catcher in the interior of the house: the bespoke bathroom ensemble with free-standing bath and washbasin in enamelled titanium steel.

"Friends" — Towers, Munich, Germany

Urban living: the 260 condominiums of the “Friends” residential towers in the west of Munich offer modern city dwellers sophisticated architecture with the highest level of comfort. In addition to two communal roof terraces, a kitchen lounge and a gym, a housekeeper is available on request to deal with shopping, dry cleaning and deliveries, and water plants. A service app helps with reserving a place in the kitchen lounge, booking workout times in the gym and organising a window cleaner or laundry service.

The apartments themselves combine floor-to-ceiling panoramic windows with comfortable open-plan layouts. Bathroom, kitchen and dressing room are arranged in a cube system, while the storage spaces are outsourced. This results in interlocking zones within the apartments with no loss of living space. Floor-level shower continue the idea. However, 30 different bathroom layouts required 30 differently-sized shower areas. The solution? Bespoke Floor shower areas of enamelled titanium steel — simply perfect.
